U.ME.GD - Finalisation

FINALISATION

POSTER
The group decided that keeping the poster design simple and in neutral colours will help to avoid narrowing down the potential audience therefore making it approachable to everyone. Keeping the decoration to a minimum also helps in force this concept (too floral may tip towards being a bit feminine. too linear and straight forward could represent masculinity) The fact that this design is so neutral also helps to create a air of curiosity and draws in a range of audiences to look into what is being displayed.

THE FOLLOWING PRODUCTS WILL BE PART OF A WELCOME PACK TO THE EVENT GIVEN OUT ON THE DAY

LEAFLET
The leaflet continues to run with the same theme, features and typography. The front of the leaflet is the same as the poster. On the back of the Leaflet we have given a brief explanation of what the event is swell as Facebook & Twitter links.
(These will be given out in previous to the event to advertise and a spare one will appear in the welcome pack).

Further thought

UPDATED CONCEPT IDEAS
After coming together as a group for a 2nd time, it was clear that we all felt our idea was good but our concept was weak. Because of this we decided to go back to the drawing board to improve our initial idea.

OUT COMES OF PROGRESS MEETING

INCLUDE ALCOHOL
to relate to the overall theme of the Freshers Period we have decided to incorporate a simple drinking game that will help people relax and have fun through out the event.
As two people sit and make conversation shots will be placed in front of each person. 'Shot Masters' will be casually wondering around the event keeping an eye out for any awkwardness or long silence's. If you are guilty of this actions you will be ordered to take a shot by the 'Shot Master'. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be available.

MORE DIRECT TIPS & QUESTIONS
Make the tips and questions relate strongly to Graphic Design to re-enforce the original question and direct the event to a more specific audience.

FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS
Using the 'cute' and relatable playground activity will make the event light-hearted and fun as well as giving people that attend the event small moments of there time.
A further idea I suggested to the group was the possibility of also adding tags to the bracelets. These tags will be attached to this bracelets that will allow people to give contact details.

POSTERS
Instead of just handing out leaflets to advertise, We will also display posters around collage so people are aware of whats going down.

LEAFLETS
We have decided to use the already completed leaflet design. however instead of putting the tips & questions on the back we will display information on what the event is and what will take place.

TIPS & QUESTIONS
This will be separate slip which will be given out at the begging of activities on the day.

GROUP CRIT FEEDBACK

During our group crits, we received some valuable feedback from the other students. Overall we got a good reception to our ideas.
- Its different therefore intriguing to students.
-The event sounds fun and the different aspects flow well.

However we got some good advice on things we could tweak.
-Maybe add colour?
Don't have individual shot judges standing over participants as this could be off-putting and good prevent people to continue with the event.
- Is it possible for people form adjacent courses to come and join in??
A lot of the points and issues raised have already been thought about and discussed by our group in previous meetings. however the point raised on the shot judges was taken in and disgust by our group after the crit had finished. We have decided to change 'shot judge' to 'shot master' and these designated people will wonder around in a relaxed yet manner casually keeping an eye out for awkward situations that will require the people involved to take a shot. This is so that event goers will not feel intimidated.

NEW LEAFLET LAYOUTS
We have already decided on the front design of the leaflet, so we experimented with the reverse side. After sitting together and discussing what we believe students should be aware of when preparing for a one on one 'speed friend', we managed to come up with a few vital yet humorous tips.

- SMILE.
-BE POLITE.
-BRUSH YOUR TEETH.
-SAY IT DONT SPRAY IT.
-SHOWER.
-BE CONFIDENT.
-BE WELCOMING AND WARM.
-LOOK INTERESTED.
-LIE IF NECESSARY.
-ENSURE FLY IS DONE UP.

We also had fun in coming up with questions strictly based on Graphic design. E tried to make them as strange as possible so that only people familiar with the graphic design world would understand what is being said. This gives the questions another aspect of humour as people who do understand (hopefully everyone) will feel like geeks.

-HELVETICA OR ARIAL?
-FINELINER OR MOUSE?
MAC OR PC?
ARE YOU A SMART OBJECT OR A PIXAL?
DO YOU HAVE ANY HIDDEN LAYERS?
WHO BIT THE APPLE?
The overall reaction to the above designs was that they resembled the 'Keep calm and Carry on' poster from WW2 which has recently been re-released and become quite popular/common.

To match the idea presented on the front, each line of text has been resized and arranged give the illusion of a symmetrical box made of type. The swirls and border also carry on the uniform identity.

BRACELET TAG DESIGNS
Because our event is all about meeting new people, the inclusion of tag bracelets allows participants to keep in touch with fellow students for possible meet ups in the future.
We need to make sure that the layout of the tag allows event goers to write down the appropriate information.

FIRST TAG MOCKUP
We wanted to include the squiggle decoration, so i experimented on how to place this on to the tag. We thought using a grey background may help to continue the identity design but also make it a little different so the arrival back wasn't to monochrome and boring.

LAYOUT FOR FILL-OUT LINES
(LANDSCAPE)
(PORTRAIT)
Using icons instead of text helps to de clutter the tags layout, which is important as they are only small. Using the very recognisable also makes it obvious to the audience what is implied.

WHITE BACKGROUND
(PORTRAIT)
When we printed the tag, the grey background did not give the desired effect we were looking for. because of this we decided to revert back to using white as the main background colour and also giving it a black border.

T-SHIRTS
We have decided as a group to have the 'shot masters' adorned in specialised t-shirts.
(sketches by Sam)

At first we thought about just having text on the t-shirt: U.ME.GD on the front and 'shot master' on the back. In the end we decided to put the poster design for the even on the front so the people wearing them are recognisable to the event. Plus it saves us time as the design is already complete. We all agreed that having a black t-shirt would look better than white.

Designs Ideas

LEAFLET DESIGN IDEAS

We have all decided that keeping the colour neutral will make the event approachable to males and females and also makes the event look upper-class therefore intriguing.

To help individuals get to know each other we also decided to use the simple method of name tags. We continued with potential identity designs to match the badges to the leaflets.

FUTHER DESIGN EXPERIMENTATION
During our second meeting I shared the idea of some how incorporating friendship bracelets to make the event more fun and relatable. As we decided to include this ideas and realised this could be a defining feature of our gathering, i briefly went back to the drawing board on leaflet designs experiment with the inclusion of these 'little braided bits of love'.

CHOSEN IDEA

SPEED FRIENDING SOCIAL GATHERING/EVENT

BASIC IDEA

-This social gathering is all based on the simple concept of speed dating. The idea is that the group of people that take part in this experience are split down the middle and then pair up (randomly). These two people sit and get to know each other for an allotted amount of time. After this period the pairs swap partners. This continues for sometime until everyone has met, been introduced and held a reasonable conversation. However the difference for our event is that this is done in a non-intimate setup and is aimed to help people speak and interact with people they may not have the courage to approach outside of this specialised event.
