Studio Brief 1 / Research Publication / Thoughts & Ideas

RESEARCH PUBLICATION.
THOUGHTS & IDEAS.

During my research on chocolate, I think that the most interesting and valuable aspect of the research would be the actual production process. This could be a good basis for me to concentrate on for my research publication.

The production process of chocolate can cover multiple subjects regarding the journey from bean to bar, biscuit or cake. This includes the growing, harvesting and preparing of the cocoa bean and the transformation from this to the product known as chocolate. Information on the types of bean, were they are grown and why as well as the rules and regulations that are implemented for the making process as well as the finished, packaged product.

I also like the fact that the range of products that rely on chocolate and may look into the vastness of this as it may be fun to work with and organise in a way.

THE COCOA TREE / PODS
Where are they grown and why? How are they grown?
Features / Climates / Countries / landscapes / Numbers / Statistics.

THE COCO BEANS

MAKING OF CHOCOLATE
Visuals / Preparations / Processes / Transformations

EXISTING BRANDS / PRODUCTS
Brands that specialise in chocolates / The range of products that rely of chocolate

Arranging content in this way will allow the publication to flow while informing of the process behind the much loved confection.

Considering the way in which I could present this publication, I drew out a couple of ideas that I had the included both the 16 page book and its packaging.

For the content of the book, the first chapter would contain information on the origins of chocolate and how is started from the cocoa bean. I will display the information I have gained though my initial research and show a dissection of the cocoa bean and display which parts are the most important. This will then lead into the different types of cocoa beans available and which are most widely used.

I would like to include maybe some kind of map to visualise were the cocoa tree is grown and why as well as how they are harvested.

This could then lead on to the preparation this pods have to go through in order to get them reading to be sent for manufacture.

Going through the manufacturing and production process would then lead to finished chocolate and the most relatable thing as this is usually the only thing we see regarding chocolate.

I started to look at imagery that could be used for the publication. I had to be sure that the sizes of the images would be suitable for the publication and would not loose quality. I wanted the images to be photography just because I feel that this is more explanatory and relatable due to the fact that they are real.

I looked at images regarding the different types of coco pod.

Because I wanted to do the stages of production for my publication, I decided that starting with the the cocoa pad and explaining the different types would be a easy to then expand on going into the beans inside and what happens to them while in the manufacturing process.
