COLLABORATIVE
PAIRING UP.

My self and Sarah Goldthorpe decided to pair up in preparation for the collaborative brief. We were asked to answer questions on out decision considering the partnership.

The three initial briefs we have chosen for consideration are:

- Unileaver / D&AD

- Bear Cereals / YCN

- Body shop / D&AD

Why have you chosen your creative partner?

I feel that Sarah and I have similar aesthetically approaches to our work and i also believe that we would work well together because we are not afraid of trying new things. After talking to Sarah about the type of work we both produce we felt that we both, don't really have a specific style (not what we can see any way). I think we both feel comfortable working with type, photography, illustration an other differing printing methods to achieve results.

What are your aims?

Are aims are to work together effectively playing on our strengths as well as supporting each other through things we find difficult. We wish to produce an outcome that pushes our boundaries of design, however remain relevant and integral to the brief we choose.

What are your specific areas of creative interest in this brief?

I haven't personally designed anything specifically for children and I think this would be a good challenge for me. Sarah has done one previous brief directed at children and said that she did enjoy and would like to do again.
We both enjoy working with hand drawn and digital illustration and feel this would be relevant to the brief

What specific design skills do you have to offer in relation to your brief?

Idea generation as well as consideration of what is possible. Digital and hand drawn illustration. Confidence working outside of a 2D format. Working with grids and layouts. Working with different formants, materials and print methods.

How do you intend to use them?
Well

What specific non-design do you have to offer in relation to your chosen brief?

Time keeping and committing free time to work. Confidence in talking to new people and asking for advice. Reliable.

How do you intend to use them?

What will your specific roles be in the collaboration in relation to your brief?
Research management, contacts and communication.

What will your individual responsibilities be in relation to the brief?Production, Compromising, Idea genoration, Time management, Deadlines, Consistent aesthetics, Research activities, Communication.

DECIDING ON A BRIEF
BEAR CEREAL
This product already has a strong aesthetic that we would have to stick to. We both do not like the current style and feel there are some inconsistencies in the aesthetics, However this could be something we could propose to improve and update. It can be seen as a bad thing being confined to aesthetics, but it can also be a positive in the fact we can concentrate more on the actual idea and concept we wish to apply.

BODY SHOP
We liked the concept presented by Body shop, however felt restricted to the fact they are only asking for posters. We are looking to push boundaries and feel that this may be too safe.

UNILEAVER
We liked the option of choosing a brand to use and we liked the idea of basing this project on the Ben & Jerrys ice-cream brand. We were also interested in the fact that you have to promote the cause through a clever concept in order to capture the attention of people with in a city.

After discussing each brief regarding pros, cons and ideas, we both felt more drawn to the Bears cereal brief due to the nature of its cause. We also discussed some potential ideas for this brief which made us excited to start planning and developing concepts and visuals.

Due to the preference of this brief over the others while in discussion we decide to go with it for our collaborative work.
