1. WHAT SKILLS HAVE YOU DEVELOPED THROUGH THIS MODULE AND HOW EFFECTIVELY DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE APPLIED THEM?
Through out this module I have learnt many knew skills
that apply to the interaction with clients and how to work with others as well
as the actual design process its self.
I feel that the most progress and useful skill I have
learnt through out this module is the mocking up process which allows me to
visualise and product with out having to spend time and money trying to print
things by hand. It allows me to get a sense and feel of how something will look
and work in a real life context, which is also useful when explaining and
displaying ideas to a client. I have found that having a mock up example for a
client gets them more excited and enthusiastic about my ideas and concept
rather than trying to explain through a flat design.
I also think I have got better at managing multiple
briefs. Because I had control of what I took on at what times I feel that this
helped me balance the volume of work and keep it consistent through out the
module. This also made me work more efficiently as I planned my time out better
depending on the scale of each project.
2. WHAT APPROACHES TO/METHODS OF DESIGN PRODUCTION HAVE YOU DEVELOPED AND HOW HAVE THEY INFORMED YOUR DESIGN DEVELOPMENT PROCESS?
Digitally mocking up my designs has given me a new
approach to working and has greatly influenced the way in which I have worked
for this module. I also believe that this have also fed into my presentation
skills which is something that has carried on to develop through out my
projects.
I have also had chance to work more with my illustration
skills and applied this to the aesthetics of my work. This has helped me to
develop a wider range of options for me rather than working strictly in a
digital sense and I feel I now have more confidence creating this type of
aesthetic were appropriate.
3. WHAT STRENGTHS CAN YOU IDENTIFY IN YOUR WORK AND HOW HAVE/WILL YOU CAPITALISE ON THESE?
I believe that I have been able to dedicate the correct
amount of time to each of the differing brief and no allowed my self to get
carried away. I think that making my self work with in a set time for the
individual projects has been a strength that has allowed me to work
efficiently.
Being able to mock up work digitally is defiantly
something that I have been able to learn and develop through out this module
and has become a strength. This is something that has, and will continue to be
a part of my work across modules depending on appropriateness.
I think I have been able to see past a lot of the briefs
and as well as completing what has been asked of me I have also gone a step
further with proposed development that a client may not have thought of yet may
be useful. Were I can I will continue to do this because I think is displays a
more dynamic thought process and can help my design and aesthetics lead into
other things.
I like the illustrative work that I have developed and
used during this module and it has given me more confidence to use these skills
more often with in my design if appropriate for a brief.
4. WHAT WEAKNESSES CAN YOU IDENTIFY IN YOUR WORK AND HOW WILL YOU ADDRESS THESE IN THE FUTURE?
Even though I believe that my design and work process
has been efficient during the module, I do need to improve my blogging skills
and ensure that I keep my blog up to date more regularly. Making sure I take
time every week to document my progress will help to avoid stress toward the
end of the module.
5. IDENTIFY FIVE THINGS THAT YOU WILL DO DIFFERENTLY NEXT TIME AND WHAT DO YOU EXPECT TO GAIN FROM DOING THESE?
I would have liked to have taken part in more
competition briefs. Maybe if I had started to apply my self and complete briefs
earlier on this may have been a possibility. I think this may have bee a
confidence thing, however now I am more aware of what it takes and now I feel
more confident in putting my work ‘out there’, taking part in competition
briefs could turn into a regular thing.
I would have liked to have utilised the photography
facilities a lot more during this module, However due to time constraints and
the amount of work on all at once, it is something I was not quite able to get
round to. I think being able to professionally photograph my work would have
allowed me to apply more of a personal touch.
I would have made sure that I blog more regularly. This
is something that I do find hard to do because once I am in to a flow with my
work a hate having to break off to blog my progress as I feel this slows me
down and distracts me from the actual designing. I need to make sure that I
make it into a habit.
I would have liked to have completed a live brief for a
client that I wasn’t perhaps to familiar with. I think this would have helped
me to gain a more professional stand point and would have allowed me to get
experience working with new people on a strictly business relationship rather
than clients who are friends.
As
well as some of the blogging, I think it would have been better for me to have
also completed my design boards during the time I had been finishing the brief.
This would have allowed me to execute the boards while I was in the right frame
of mid fresh off the subject.
