Studio Brief 2 / Idea Development / Crit

OUGD505 / STUDIO BRIEF 2
EMPEZAR / BEAN TO BAR.
IDEA DEVELOPMENT.

Because I only have limited time to create and produce a rage of products. I felt that, regarding the product and packaging side of my brief, i would pick a couple to physically make. I feel that i need to do do some products that still show the range that would be available on the shelves of food stores or in the actual establishment to sit and try.

The fact both the products being supplied, presented and given out at the cafe and the ones that are being packaged to sit on the shelves of supermarkets will be produced with in the same establishment by the people at our company, this will mean that having the rangeges with in different contexts will not cost more.

From the original list shown previously I chose products i feel will be represent the larger scale of products.

PRODUCTS I WILL BE MAKING

- CHOCOLATE MILK - To show liquid baked produce.

- CHOCOLATE TASTING BOX - To show the basics of the brand.

- A BAKED PRODUCT - To show diversity from the typical chocolate shop.

- COCOA POWER - To give an example of cooking materials that can be used art home.

PROPOSED PRODUCTS FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT

- Smaller chocolate boxes that contain individual levels of chocolate
(for example: a box with only 85% cocoa chocolates inside with different flavour variants, a box with 70% cocoa chocolates inside with different flavour variants etc.)

- Mole sauce (contains empezar chocolate)

- Chocolate sauce (for ice creams or puddings / Different strengths)

- Hot chocolate powder (Different strengths or infusions of flavour)

- Chocolate covered crisps

- Chocolate moose (different strengths / flavours)

CHOCOLATE TASTING SET

I want this pice to be simple and straight forward so it matches the no-nonsense theme of the produce and the fact that it is simply a set that presents the different stages of chocolate regarding its strength. (There would be other chocolate boxes that would have different flavour) For this particular product I wanted it to be more for the basic experience.

I wanted to use the shades of the chocolate to show the stages clearly in a visible manner as well as a tasting one. Here are some ideas I had that presented this concept this concept.

At first I wanted to use acetate, see through plastic so that the shades of chocolate can be seen. However after thinking about it, I feel that this kind of material would not really suit the natural and organic feel that I wanted to portray through the brand. Because of this I looked at some alternatives.

Because I had already made a box for my research publication i though that using a similar design would work well. I like the idea of having a belly band to save on printing on massive sheets of paper. A well as printing on smaller scales for ethical reason, this will also save me on printing costs.

BEVERAGE / CHOCOLATE MILK

I felt that, because I wanted to go with the theme of having different strengths of chocolate depending on the amount of pure cocoa being present, I feel that I should have this through out many of the products I order to increase the range available.

As well as looking at different bottle shape and products on my context blog, I also sketched a couple of ideas regarding the labelling of the product.

COCOA POWDER

I wanted to also include products that allow the audience to incorporate the natural produce from the Empezar brand into their own cooking. I have to be aware of packaging that is available to me to adapt like a jar shop however I still sketched a few ideas to visualise some possibilities.

BAKED GOODS / SALAMI DI CIOCCOLATO

I found this product through previous research and I thought it would really good to incorporate a product that not many people know about or have heard of before. The unique shape of this item will also be fun too package and is very suiting because, even though this recipe originated in Romania, it is has been adapted in spain and is used in Latin markets.

CRIT

For this crit I brought in the materials I had bought from my shopping trip as well as the sketches of the products I had thought up.

I made a note of what i was doing regarding the disciplines in the graphic design field as well as the concept behind it.

FEEDBACK

The feedback I received was positive, however many people thought that I had not concentrated enough on the actual cafe side of the project and this is something I should look at in more depth. There were a few suggestions such as loyalty cards, wall art showing the production of chocolate, menus and some other things that would make the chocolate shop and cafe more viable and as thorough as the Product and packaging side of the brief.
